name strength

01 November 2011

Quite a few people have separately and coincidentally commented that Sebastian Xavier is 'such a strong name'.  I guess I don't necessarily disagree but I can't help but wonder if 'strong' is merely a euphemism for 'I don't like it'.  Hopefully not.

Anyway, as Sebastian and I sit here like patient little pandas waiting for Simon to wrap up his duties for the day on another floor of the hospital so that we can go home maybe before midnight...I can't help but notice that yes...he certainly does look strong.

Pink and purple pacifier, off the shoulder gown, a flawless complexion and the sweetest dispostion.

Strong for the W?
Beauty in strength?
A man's boy?
Or
All of the above?

Pick your poison.

Are you getting tired of the bebe talk? Hope so...because I still have to pound out the multiple chapters of the birth novella. Lucky you.

  1. I'm not tired of the baby talk. More, more, more please! I really want another little one, but it will be a couple years, at least, so I will happily live vicariously through you, and Sebastian.

Regardless of anyone else's opinion, I LOVE, and always have loved, the name Sebastian. I think it is sweet and wonderful.

  7. people say that a lot with boys. i always took it as a compliment. i also wonder if it has something to do with long names because i got told that a lot more with christopher than andrew. i love xavier we considered it with both boys and you won't have to worry about him being in school/class with lots of boys named Sebastian:) i really can't wait to hear the birth story!

  10. I too think Sebastian Xavier is a strong name and not because I don't like it! Lol! I do like it but to me it "sounds" strong, it sounds manly, he sounds brave and poised. To me a name says a lot - whether or not it's how the person ends up being that's different but certain names "sound" a certain way to the human brain. We have a friend who named their new baby Annie Pearl White. I laugh because I imagine a little old white haired lady - not a baby!

  11. Pedro has informed me that you must really like "X-Men", because two of the main characters are named Sebastian and Xavier. Fr. Z says Xavier is a Basque name and he likes it.....says in Basque it's pronounced -Hav-e-air. I will be tempted to call him Seb, because of Seb Macik. I always have liked the name! I can't wait to see how Little Miss J reacts when her brother comes home! We are also very anxious for the entire birth story. Couldn't believe you could play WWF until midnight!

  13. I don't think 'strong' name necessarily means someone doesn't like it. I think it just means that the name isn't wimpy, that you gave him a real masculine name that he needs to live up to. I think you guys rock for not being afraid to give him a solid name. I love the name Dominic and I always tell people I love it because it's a strong name for a boy. Sebastion Xaviar is strong, original, and you've got the saints in there (only thing that really matters!) and I really like it.

    AND...

Our next male child (whenever or if-ever we welcome one) will be named Xavier. I looooooove that name.
That and Sebastien...but I already told you that, didn't I?

    I'm a repeater.

  18. I am DYING for the birth story. I can't get enough of that baby! And I think they mean he doesn't have a pansy name. I can't name any of the ones I think would fall into that category for fear of making some poor mommy sad, but I think you can imagine the ones I'm talking about, WINK WINK NUDGE NUDGE.

  22. Awww he is gorgeous!! And strong is most definitely a good thing. I love strong boy names that transfer into strong manly man names. =) My Little Guy is Gabriel Reese and I think that's pretty tough. =)
