7 Quick Takes

14 June 2013

Linking up with Jennifer over at Conversion Diary. You know how I do.

1. When I was little (but old enough to remember so maybe ... 10? ... so medium age) we had just outgrown the minivan and had graduated to a suburban (before we saw the light and upgraded to the 15 passenger) but hadn't sold the minivan yet. You follow?

Okay well my mom strapped us all into the suburban for a fun trip to Allsup's to get slushies or something because she was a fun mom (a trait I did not inherit) and then ran back into the house to grab something ... came back out ... popped into the minivan and went down to the gas station (literally down the street -- we lived in a small small small town - don't judge her too harshly) and didn't realize she was alone until she parked. I didn't understand that kind of spacey until last night when I went to the store alone to buy trash bags and came home with no trash bags but ingredients to make bran muffins. The kids - they suck the brain dry.

2. Part II of Kate's love story is up and it is thee best. (Even Simon read part I and admitted that he couldn't wait for part dos). Git.

3. I know I always sing the praises of this hair powder but the regular grocery store sells this stuff now and it's a lot cheaper (in the store! online it appears to be more expensive - riddle me that) and does the same thing. In case you're in the market for a good hair powder if your hair is limp and boring like mine.

4. I think two people liked my first running playlist so of course that encouraged DJ Grase to make another. It's bad. Akon, Tiesto, and a little Flaming Lips for your cooldown. Real bad.

5. I know there are a lot of giveaways that go down here at el Camp and this weekend I'll be adding to the pile but I think you'll like. It's not one of my children but ... even better.

And they are a hard thing to top.

6.

I know you want a pretty boy update so I'm happy to report that he finally rolled from front to back -- once. He won't repeat but at this rate he'll be crawling in approximately 12-18 months which is just fine with this stage mom. I hate the crawling stage.

7. We got a sitter for tonight (Julia is going to be sorely disappointed when George the Dragon doesn't show up at 7:30 because that is exactly how she translated "Jordan the babysitter") and so we're going to responsibly drink alcohol and revel in the fact that Simon is not at the hospital. Maybe I'll even trick Simon into cutting a rug. We'll see.

Have a wild one.
I know how you are and I know that you will.

Hasta.

  1. I can't even imagine the heart in the stomach feeling your mom must have had!

I have to write things down now - I can't even imagine with kids. I will have to write so many things down - so many!!

  2. We upgraded from the minivan to the Suburban with #5 and that's as far as we got. I have two friends with the 12-passenger, and I shudder in fear every time I see one!! Plus, my sister-in-law used to be a police officer and told me to never buy one - bad rollover history. And my little brother got "forgotten" all the time (usually at church) when we were younger because my parents just drove two cars everywhere and someone always thought the other parent had David. He was quite the charmer of old ladies and could always be found enjoying a donut or 4 in the parish hall, completely oblivious to the fact that the entire family had left.

  3. Oh the 15 passenger, with 11 of us we rocked it....and ours was Barney purple....exactly the kind of thing this 15 year old was super pumped about when we moved to a new town and started at a new high school.

  4. I just got that brand of dry 'poo today, but in the spray form! I made sure to do a smell test first and I totally got caught and was met with a side eye by a CVS employee.

  5. That story about your mom is hilarious! Ben said something yesterday morning that I thought was hilarious at the time and made a mental note to tell Matt. Yep, still can't remember what that oh so funny thing was. At work I always wear my glasses to appear more intelligent than I actually am these days.

  6. Every time I hear/read a story about a forgotten kid or twelve, it actually makes me more excited for parenthood. I know. I'm weird.

  8. The best part of this post is the pink onesie. Not to imply that the rest of it isn't up to your usual snuff (cuz you know it is, it really is) but how can you beat a manly man in pink? You just can't.

PS- crawling sucks, in fact everything until about 8 and 3/4 sucks (it's been a long day man).

  9. Wilson has just started rolling front to back too! I love seeing what Theo's doing because they are so close in age.

I am 'that kind of spacey' on a regular basis. My children's guardian angels work overtime around here.

  10. That story about your mom is awesome. One time I remember all of us siblings riding along for my sister Liz's soccer practice. All of us except Liz. And love that Flaming Lips song.

  11. Haha we had a 15 passenger van, too. When my parents dropped my teenage self off at the bowling alley to meet up with some friends, some of the other teenage kids hanging around outside pointed out the "special van." Grrrreat for my self esteem...
    Have a great time tonight!

  13. Oh yeah, all sorts of fun over here tonight. We're watching our niece and nephew. Actually, I stand corrected: my HUSBAND is watching them. I'm playing online. It's been a long day. I'll return the favor.

  14. Love reading your posts, as everyone in the world does. I was just looking for songs to run too. thank ya!

  15. Ooo, I don't like the crawling stage either. I'm actually not fond of the whole mobility-without-reason stage from about 9-18 months. And I've never heard of hair powder. I have heavy and limp hair. I might need to try it!

  16. Sometimes while I'm counting my kids to make sure I have them all I don't remember how many I have. I think it's because we count the one we lost and the one in the womb and because I'm tired and bad at math. But more than once I'll count to 4 and then ask my friends or Travis, "Who are we missing?"

  17. I'm always telling my husband that my head hurts from counting kids - we have 7, and every time we load up in our van I make one of the kids confirm my count and that we have the newborn since he's so quiet I hardly know he's there!

  18. So jealous you got a night on the town! How old is Theo now? Five or six months? Get your drink on while you still can, girlfriend!

  19. You could totally send one (or all) of your kiddo's my way. They are aDORAble!!! Hopefully you guys had an awesome date night! We want pics :) Still stewing over miss maggie's audacity. I'm typing an email to her in my head with all my parenting "fails" - she ain't seen nothing yet.... Can't imagine that she's a mother, probably a cathair-covered spinster. Hope you have a fantabulous weekend xx

  21. Since there's no Sunday Best yet this week, I'll leave this little note here :)

At Mass, my husband leans over and says to me, "D."

    "Tea? what?"

"D. That kid up there on the left gets a D for his Mass grade today."

    1. Glad to know my husband was listening as I updated him on your blog hilariousness and 2. I'm sure that our quickness to hand out grades to other children will surely come back to bite us in the form of Mass time tantrums from our own future children :)
