Welcome Favoriteers! I highly doubt there is a single soul that reads this blog that doesn't read Hallie's blog but in the crazy event that you're not familiar with the Five Favorites link-up ... it's very simple: just pound out any five of your current favorite anythings ... beauty product, blog post, recipe, etc., post it and link it good right here. Hallie is a busy little bee getting ready to fly with half of her brood down to Texas (so send any flying with children tips her way!) and she is being generous and letting me host for the week.
So! Here are mine ...
1. thredUP
thredUP is a genius online thrift store (complete with children's clothing!). I love eBay but have you ever sold something on eBay? Kind of a hassle especially if you don't enjoy taking three kids to the post office which perpetually houses the longest line of silent people ever ... not fun. thredUP has a ton of cute inventory (those red pants are from Zara via thredUP and I also found a pair of Emerson Fry jeans for a frickety fraction of their retail price that I have been drooling over forever ... crazy) but they don't stop there. No. You can request that they send you a bag and then you just fill it and put it outside your door because the shipping is covered (so so so so nice) and then they'll email you with what they've kept and how much they'll pay you in $$$ or store credit and what they're going to donate (well, you can request that they send the stuff back if you'd like). I'm super addicted. Take a look and if you use this link you'll get $10 off your first order. Awesome.
2. Nude nail polish
I'm a pretty loyal Sally Hansen's Cafe Au Lait devotee but Target didn't have it in stock and I'd read on a few blogs about OPI's Samoan Sand and I really can't tell much of a difference in the bottles (yet to be nail-tested). Let me know if you have a favorite hue that makes it look like you didn't even paint your nails. Why I don't just paint them clear is beyond me.
3. Chicken and Cilantro Wontons. I'm SO excited that Costco has started carrying these. I would make special trips to Trader Joseph's just for these wontons because they are so easy to make and even my stupidly picky kids like these but now they're selling them at Costco ... as if I needed another reason to pledge my undying love to the warehouse of all warehouses.
4. I've come to terms with the fact that I'm one of those ladies that just can't pull off a red lip. I know, I know ... "anyone can!" well ... I can't. I look super clowny and kind of scary. I do love Revlon's Colorburst Lip Butter in Peach Parfait and Creme Brulee ... easy does it for this geriatric layduh.
5. Okay this isn't a favorite but more of a favor. Do you have a current favorite blog or blogs? You know the one that you read the second a new post drops? Lately I've been loving Natalie, Emily, and Sydney and I have a ton of great ones in my reader but am always on the hunt for new ones ... big, small, medium, whatev. Thanks a trillion!!
If you don't mind the occasional (ok, more than occasional) f-bomb, you might enjoy amalah.com. She is The Funniest. And she has a couple of amazing advice columns as well. Her pregnancy calendar, Zero to Forty, will have you tinkling in your pants. And not from baby kicks to the bladder.
ReplyDeleteOk- we are so similar! It is like I am reading a funnier version of myself! I am so glad I found ya via ANMJ. I also struggle with the red lip- but I haven't put up the white flag yet. Creme Brulee lip butter is my go-to everyday. I've been considering Thred Up lately but not sold on it yet...there is nothing like the fantastic surprise finds at the real store! My must reads are Vintage Revivals, Maskcara, and ANMJ.

neonfresh.com - Roo... oh Roo. Girl is so funny.
ReplyDeletelittlebabygarvin.blogspot.com - She's got a really adorable little girl and if you don't know who she is already, she's the chick with the pregnancy weekly chalkboards you see allllll over Pinterest.
joythebaker.com - her food just looks delish and I love the way she writes.
kayladanelle.com - she's funny and her kids are cute
Also, I cannot, for the life of me, pull off a red lip. Ain't gonna happen.
I'm loving ThredUP! I just ordered a bunch of stuff, including an EmersonMade (you know, like pre-Emerson Fry) skirt that I absolutely LOVE except the fact that none of the items have measurements listed and it was a teeny bit too small. Okay, teeny is exaggerating. I can barely zip it, let alone breathe, so it's going back :( SO SAD. But other than that, I had a great experience and love it.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite nude nail polish is some rando bottle I found at Forever 21 awhile ago, it's a light beige with a slight bit of shimmer and it's SO PRETTY. The best part is that when it starts to chip, you can't even tell unless you look close.
Why I only ever paint my nails in a way that makes it look like I didn't paint my nails. OPI Passion is my choice. It is actually a very pale pink, but one coat is essentially nail color and two coats almost gives a hint of pink. A lady at a salon once recommended it to me when I was a bridesmaid getting my nails done and asked if it was okay to just have clear.
ReplyDeleteSTOP looking hot in second hand red pants and stop saying nice stuff about my blog (okay, okay- don't stop. whatevz)
ReplyDeletexx
Great nailpolish and what the what on Thred up?!?! I will check them out today during my day off-ish.
ReplyDeleteoooh emerson fry jeans! i drool over those too. i love nat and sydney...heading over to check out the beetle shack! blog suggestion, have you read signe's blog? http://www.signeroo.com/ i love it, and if i could just have her hair that would be great.
ReplyDeleteA. I can't do red lipstick either. I swear it's because I've always had naturally big, way too big, lips. My sister used to tell me all the time how girls would rather have big lips, and I guess in a light of all the lip plumping going on these days, maybe she was right. In ANY case, it certainly doesn't help me in the red lipstick department :(
ReplyDeleteB. http://www.thesunnysideupblog.com The first blog I ever started reading on a regular basis and have yet to be disappointed. Erin and her husband are currently building their dream home in San Diego (and let me tell you from the several farmhouse sinks to the dutch doors and the in-ground trampoline for their kids omagosh this house is like a dream...), she's an organizing fanatic and frequently has Fashion Fridays. (And she loves Sarah on Clover Lane too!! :))
Just found you recently through the rabbit-hole of the interwebs, and am so glad I did. Here are my high-fives:
ReplyDelete1) I am SO witchoo on ThredUp. Love love love them, and I MAAAAY check their inventory on a daily basis. What? You don't know my life...
2) Best book EVER??? The one I'm currently listening to - Life, by Keith Richards. I was never a fan of the Stones until I started listening, and now I think I may be a teensy bit in love with Keef.
3) The new blended iced coffee my neighborhood coffee shop started selling. I think I love you.
4) Cherries. Especially Ranier cherries (but really, I'll inhale good old Bing cherries too. Bing...tee hee...)
5) Dexter. Ohhhh Dexter, why you gotta be on the last season EVER???? What am I going to do with my Sunday nights now?
Have a good one, mama!
Ooooo, I need to peruse thredUP. Maybe when Ryan has me hanging by a thread. Ha.
ReplyDeleteMine's the smallest of small, but here it is: http://www.moneyhipmamas.com/search/label/Favorite%20Things
ReplyDeleteLoving the nude nail polish, too! Make me feel better when fabulous people confirm my fashion efforts (because they're few and far between).
ThredUP, WHAT?! I'm only slightly upset you shared this with EVERYone and not just me. Here's hoping no one else has a boy wearing size 5.... Good work, thanks for the referral! School shopping timing was perfect!
ReplyDeleteI adore Naomi from Love Taza: http://lovetaza.com/
ReplyDeleteoh, yes. she is straight up blog royalty! love her too.
DeleteA few blogs to lead you down the rabbit hole that is the interwebz: http://www.patheos.com/blogs/barefootandpregnant/ - Calah is soooo funny and intelligent, and (obviously) has a few chilluns of her own that she blogs about; cupcakesandcashmere.com - lifestyle/fashion blog; eatliverun.com - food/lifestyle; abeautifulmess.com - lifestyle/DIY/food blog; carrotsformichaelmas.com - Catholic family type stuff. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Calah!! I even forced her to meet me in real life last year! I've read the others but not eatliverun.com -- can't wait!
DeleteThank you!!
My sister in law Rachel has a new hilarious blog www.drunkontheroof.com. You and her provide my weekly laughs!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you - the only red I can pull off is on my toe nails! (And then, it is only OPI's I'm Not Really A Waitress.)
ReplyDeletei just discovered thredUP through pinterest- thank you fashion gods! can't wait to order some stuff :)
ReplyDeleteAlong with threadUP, I love Twice (https://www.liketwice.com/9p8Kl). Actually, I'm pretty obsessed with both of them. Which works out well because I have a whole closet full of clothes I want to throw out and I don't exactly have the budget of a duchess.
ReplyDeleteI may have to try nude polish. I've been wearing really really light pinks that have a similar effect but I'm getting bored with it. I'm a Sally Hansen lover too so I will make note!
Ugh..I can't pull off the red lip either and it makes me so mad!!! I just want red lips to look good on me and not like I just got out of clown training.
ReplyDeleteRed lipstick makes me feel like a clown, too. On the incredibly rare occasions I've even worn lipstick at all, it's about the same color as my lips. (Makes about as much sense as the clear nail polish, I guess...)
ReplyDeleteI'm going to check into that thredUP before I make my next trip to Goodwill. Thanks for the info!
http://garethsrorystorycubes.blogspot.co.uk/?zx=7d5c79145e7ec8fa. Have you ever seen or heard of the story cubes? This guy has all three sets and makes up stories. This is the first one I o to because it just plain entertains me. Go back to the start and I promise you will laugh.
ReplyDeleteLove
I'm a thredUp addict too! My last order just came yesterday--Land's End dresses for the girls, a brand-new with tags skirt for me, win-win. (And apparently my ordering from there is out of control enough to qualify me for VIP status. Oops.
ReplyDeleteTopless and Barefoot (scandal...) by Essie is my nudie polish of choice. Somehow it's less brownish than others, and bonus, seems to make my skin look a tiny bit tanner!
ReplyDeleteNot everyone, I agree, can pull off a red lip. I am one of those also. I just look clownish. So if I wear lipstick, which I often don't, I feel really geriatric too.
ReplyDeleteLoving the red pants! And Covergirls outlast #205 ( guess they don't believe in fun names) is a favorite sheer nude nail polish of mine!
ReplyDelete1. Just in case you didn't know...you can print up postage at USPS.com and then schedule the postman to pick it up the next day. Thankfully, I haven't had to go to the post office for some time. Just the thought of taking one kid to the post office scares me.
ReplyDelete2. I don't have any nude nail polish. I think I need to fix that.
I love the thredUP tip - thanks a heap for that one! We used to live in a city where I could thrift shop to my heart's content, but now that we live out in the middle of no-where, I miss it more than I thought I would. This should also help curb any temptation to cave into impulsive online retail shopping. :)
ReplyDeleteMy husband also thanks you! (He wanted me to tell you that.)
DeleteI have an embarrassing amount of blogs on my Bloglovin', but only two are immediate must-reads for me: Camp Patton and putapuredukes.com. Y'all are seriously the two funniest bloggers out there.
ReplyDeletehttp://johnson-mccormick.com/ I have been reading this blog for 5 years+ I think? I LOVE IT!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I never knew nude mail polish existed. I always did clear. I like my new option, thank you!
I love OPI Bubblebath...just one coat makes it look like just a hint of pink...subtle but a bit more than just clear.
ReplyDeleteSo these two blogs are NOT very applicable to you, Grace, but I have loved them ever since my single days.
ReplyDelete1. http://www.megfee.com/ - single gal navigating NYC. She is a beautiful writer! However, it's more mature subject matter than many a "mom blog."
2. http://seraphicsinglescummings.blogspot.com/ - "Auntie Seraphic," as she is known to fans, is just full of wisdom and good writing no matter who you are. However her advice is singles-specific.
And a bonus (I know I said two)...
3. I will add The Bloggess. http://thebloggess.com/. I used to read her regularly and then decided she was a little too raunchy for me. So I cannot vouch for anything she has posted in, say, the last year. But she can be quite funny.
Also, this girl: http://www.fairytalesaretrue.com/
ReplyDeleteSo lovely.
my blog recommendation is I Miss You When I Blink: http://imissyouwheniblink.com/ here's a caveat: it's not appropriate - at all! - but so funny. Her post about "How to live the J Crew life" slayed me: http://imissyouwheniblink.com/2013/03/14/living-a-j-crew-life-6-simple-steps/
ReplyDeleteYoona is pretty hilarious: http://yoonanimous.com/. She doesn't post super often which is a tragedy (I guess? hashtag hyperbolic).
ReplyDeleteI loooooove Trader Joe's chicken & cilantro wontons. You really are campaigning for me to get a Costco membership, aren't you?
ReplyDeletei think this might be your favorite when you see it!

Ahhhh you look so hot with your hair up like that, Grace! You look awesome in red trousers like that and I wish I was as tall and fit looking as you. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteFor extra gushy brownie points, yours is my favourite blog, so no use sending you a link back to your own, but I'm enjoying inmysundaybest.blogspot.co.uk, and cocoandvera.com as well.
:)

woops, make that http://in-my-sundaybest.blogspot.co.uk/, even.
DeleteZoya Amanda is a great "hand model photo shoot" warm flesh tone. Just makes my nails look sophisticated but not attention grabbing.
