wipe it good.

16 May 2014

... before you traipse any further down the page I have to warn you that this is a sponsored post. Read on or read no more ... it's your informed decision! However! I'm not writing about something irrelevant to our life because a day in the life sees me use these babies almost every hour of every day around here.

There are infinite ways in which my life has changed since having kids ... beyond infinite, actually. If you had told me exactly how much life would change post-baby before I had kids I would've chuckled and said, "oh, I know" but ... I had no idea. None at all. Let's emphasize that one more time ... NONE.

One of these ways is that I'd never guess what a serious staple baby wipes would become in my day to day life. Need to deep clean the bathroom? Baby wipes. Want to erase all traces of the yogurt explosion in the kitchen c/o the 1-year-old? Baby wipes. Want to wash your face quick and dirty style? Baby wipes. You get my drift.

But ... most importantly ... leaving the house with the kids but without baby wipes is now a great exercise in decision making skills to be filed under: stupid. The stupidest. I may as well beg Theo to take off his diaper for the duration of our sojourn and relax himself into multiple potty related accidents because Murphy and his law can smell that kind of situation a mile away. Something terrible and messy and stainy is bound to happen if I decide to ride dirty and leave the house unarmed.

Por ejemplo ... yesterday.

I braved Costco for the first time since Phoebe was born and naturally ... hit up the snack bar for some lunch. This was after a couple of bites of pizza for my neat freak ... Sebastian. I realllllly try to avoid public restrooms (especially when a shopping cart is involved because heavy doors and shopping carts are a marriage made in hell) so ... wipes it is for the face cleaning.

Even though I know this is sponsored I have to admit that I am genuinely loving the new Huggies Clutch 'n' Clean Wipes because sometimes it's nice to have a few baby related necessities that don't necessarily scream, "baby". Sometimes! The clutch is refillable and the kids have no idea that there are wipes inside ...

(will that last long? I don't know) so it's nice not having to wrestle them out of Theo's paws before he giggles his sinister little giggle and goes to town emptying the entire container because ... that's his specialty these days.

See?

Clueless. He wants nothing to do with them. Or me.

(very naturally looking cameo appearance by said wipes)

Anyway, when we visit Simon at work (pictured above) we (ahem ... the kids) always leave a mess on the table ... always. And we already draw enough attention to ourselves with the stroller and the car seat and the older two that are inevitably begging to go on the "elefagator"  and wipes are absolutely necessary to clean up the leftover disaster area before we exit the premises.

So ... on-the-go ... they're great. I keep one in my purse and one in the car and if I'm being perfectly honest ...

... one in the house because inevitably our usual pack(s) of wipes will be camping in the room where the one child is sleeping when I really REALLY need them.

Like here ...

...  the little lady sensed that everyone was asleep and mistakenly thought I looked a little bored and gave me a nice little diaper to change. Thanks, bebe. And wipes. And tiniest diapers in all of the land.

And thank you for reading. You're my favorite ... forever.

... sinister giggle of my own.
... jk - mostly.

And I learned a LOT about diaper preferences from you all a few months ago ... any strong opinions on wipes? I normally just get the Costco Kirklands but am not hating the Huggies. Hit me with your wisdom, if you dare.

  1. Click, click, click away!!! :) Target brand wipes are my jam (the purple pack) and I have never strayed, well except if someone gave me another brand for free that is...then well, duh!

  2. I love the Target wipes! I use baby wipes for everything and once I was able to get ketchup off of my khaki shorts without leaving a stain.

  3. Life is too short for terrible wipes. Seriously, save your pennies on something else. We bought the cheapest possible off brand wipes once and then said, "Never again!" We might as well have just wiped poop disasters with bare hands for all the good they did. Huggies are good.
Also, I saw your Dierbergs cart and it made my heart glad.

  4. I don't know what I'm going to do if I ever have kids because I HATE the smell of baby wipes, or baby-scented anything - powder, lotion, etc. Part of it is the actual smell and part of it is probably psychological (not that I hate babies!). I'm either going to have to buy super expensive non-scented organic wipes or a product that is essentially the same as baby wipes without being labeled "baby."

    1. They make baby scent-free wipes! My husband hates the smell so we buy those (and they're huggies)!

    2. No worries! So many scent free versions these days- I can't stand the scent either. Just about every brand makes fragrance free versions.

  5. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Huggies wipes from Costco in the super jumbo pack. They are about the same price as the Kirkland brand - but so much better! And I think they are sturdier than Huggies wipes sold in other stores.

  6. LOVE the Costco Kirkland wipes! I have tried a few others (Pampers, Huggies) but in my opinion, they don't come close. In fact, we recently moved to a city with no Costco (gasp!!) and before our membership ran out, I stocked up on a lifetime supply of wipes so that I can continue my love affair with the Costco wipes.

  7. We only use Walmart Parent's Choice SENSITIVE. They have no smell and are not as rigid as most wipes. They don't make a jumbo box and they are often missing on the shelves. So, when I buy them, I stock up. We use them for everything. I'm sure I will be buying packs and sending them off with my children to college. :)

  8. Any wipes we use on my son give him a diaper rash from hell that nothing can cure. We finally figured out we just have to use wet paper towels. What a pain in the butt it is!

  9. I hope this doesn't make me a snobby mom, but I am really into the Honest Co wipes. They are SO big! And strong! I have honestly cleaned up multiple poops with one wipe. Colour me astonished.

    1. I'm surprised to read this! We tried the Honest wipes and really did not like them. Different folks, different... wipes? :)

  10. I will proudly raise my hand as a Pampers, gal. Nothing against any others put they are tried and true and have been known to wipe down many a surface that isn't my baby boy's bottom.

  11. We go for the Target brand wipes - in the blue pack (I believe those are the unscented kind). They stick together a leeeeetle more than Pampers or Huggies, but it doesn't bother me.

  12. Huggies Natural Care wipes are like Ajax, I swear! My middle child had a major throw up problem as a baby, and those wipes got it out of everything! As in, wipe it off your clothes and you're good for another 24 hours at least. Clean up the bed, clean off the comforter, surreptitiously clean up the lady's purse in the pew in front of us in my parents' church...oops. The regular Huggies don't cut it, has to be natural care.

  13. Seventh Generation fans over here, but we've ventured into Honest Co wipes and Huggies Natural Care wipes and did not hate them. I'm a leetle bit of a hippie, detest baby scented anything, and *really* detest too-thin, too-smooth wipes that leave more feces on my hand than off the baby's bottom... so. Those are my qualifications, really.

  14. I grew up with the Kirkland brand (oldest of eight) and I pledge allegiance to it, but my husband hates the "baby" scent so we buy Huggies Natural Care.
Correction: we WILL buy them when the free ones run out.

I adore the clutches. I want one (five).

  15. Clicked 'em all ;) And I do love using the Kirkland's wipes when I visit my in-laws, but I'm normally cheap and just get store brand for when I'm not using cloth wipes (cut pieces of an old dress of mine ... that poor dress never knew what was coming).

  16. I am unbelievably particular about wipes. We use the Huggies All Natural ones. We were gifted various brands at baby showers and those were by far my favorite. I've tried to branch out and use cheaper brands and I just... can't. I really hate the Target brand ones and any of the Pampers brands. Which is funny because I'm pretty dang loyal to Pampers diapers... sigh. Things I never thought I'd actually care about.

  17. I always bought the Costco Kirkland giant box o' wipes. And really, up until about last year (my youngest is NINE!), I kept wipes in the car and in the house. Because, boys......

  18. We use Babyganics wipes and love them. I have used them to wipe down bathroom sink and the toilet seat LOL Hey, why waste a rag or paper towels? My hubby sometimes grabs one or two and wipes up the pergo floor in the playroom.
We have used other wipes that people have given us like Huggies which were fine. Worst wipes I received as a gift were Shop Rite brand. Thin, smelly, just no good.

  19. Just marched my bootay over to Costco today to get some dipes and wipes! Seeing all of these comments on the Target brand has me super curious and relieved because I'd go to Target over Costco any day!

  20. Costco's Kirkland wipes are my all time fave. They are big and just wet enough without being too wet. I guess I am kind of a wipe snob but I use them all day like you so I take them seriously. Target brand is my number 2. I honestly don't care for Huggies because they are too wet for me. I probably sound ridiculous ;-)

  21. I hate huggies diapers but LOVE their wipes. Pampers wipes feel thin and slimy. Yuck.

    1. lol ya, my husband used to complain about the slimy wipes

  22. the packaging of those wipes is so cute, i feel like i want them for that reason alone!
and this post reminded me i need to put in my next order for diapers on amazon. thx!

  23. I don't buy brand name ANYTHING. But I buy Pampers wipes. Best ever. I can't stand Huggies wipes (but their containers are better than Pampers - I buy a Huggies container every couple of years and then refill with Pampers wipes).

  24. We are using and really like the 7th Generation free & clear wipes. Anything else seems to irritate Charlotte. I did just read an article this week about how the Kirklands wipes are supposed to be the best but we have a Sam's Club membership and not Costco.

  25. I think I've tried every wipe brand in the book (all with coupons or on sale). Not a fan of Huggies for bottom wiping (too thick and that's not a time you want the wipe to tear), but dang they're sturdy for face wiping. Pampers sensitive wipes and Honest Co wipes (the new ones) have been my favorites.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'm a huge fan of the Costco ones too. They are the strongest out there and wipe better than any others I've tried.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I greatly prefer Huggies Natural Wipes to anything else. They're nice and thick and squishy, which is important when dealing with a true diaper emergency. When I spotted the giganto box at Costco, I think I heard angels singing the Hallelujah chorus. (You are part of the reason I have a Costco membership. Thanks? I think? Also, you should probably get a kickback.) Normally I use Target diapers but I recently needed to grab a pack of diapers at Kroger and I'm not a huge fan of their generic brand (they used to have generic chlorine free diapers WHICH WERE AWESOME but apparently I was the only person buying them because our store doesn't carry them anymore) so I grabbed some Huggies on your recommendation. I didn't use to like their diapers because they didn't seem to cover the sides of the baby butt so well (technically the baby hips, I guess?) and that made me nervous but they're growing on me. Their gigantic gussets to contain poopsplosions seems pretty awesome.

  28. So, I take it you don't fall into the cloth wipes and cloth diapers category....ain't nobody got time for that!

  29. We started making our own wipes with kid number three and haven't looked back. We know exactly what's going into them, and it feels really good not to be constantly buying boxes of wipes from the store. There are lots of recipes online, but ours requires olive oil, water, lavender oil, and paper towels. They work great.

  30. Pampers sensitive wipes over here. That's the first thing we tried and I've never been happy with anything else. Except, I did get some Burt's Bees baby wipes as a shower gift. I loved them, but they don't fit in the budget.

    ReplyDelete
  31. OH, I love the costco brand wipes. My son has sensitive skin and they work for him. I like that they are unscented.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Whoa, had no idea there were so many opinions about wipes. *taking notes*

On another note...I was (creepily) thinking today about how you say people stare at you guys when you're out and about. And I was thinking that maybe it's not simply because there are 4 kids. I would stare at you guys HARDCORE, not because of how many there are but because Julia's got style for days, Theo's hair is pretty terrific, and Bash is an A&F model.

    ReplyDelete
  33. We use Seventh Generation free and clear as my husband, son and I have super sensitive skin. No rashes or irritation for my baby and one wipe can handle a big mess!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Honestly it doesn't really matter to me. If I'm wiping up poop, I don't like any of them. Any for everything else they are all about the same in my book, but I love the look of that little pack. so sneaky. so fab.
