I feel silly typing about this as much of Florida and the east coast is preparing for the worst via Hurricane Matthew and and I don't have a good, "but .... " for that. I just wanted to type a little post about my little momcation (gracation?) Simon surprised me with on Sunday night.
So that's what I'm doing!
... complete with quality photo collage - my speciality.
I'm sure you were jonesing to see a bathroom selfie complete with toilet AND toilet paper and I always aim to please. I need to get over my phobia of taking photos of food in restaurants because I do feel like you would've enjoyed a peek at my breakfast. Minimal sarcasm - believe it or not.
Anyway, back up back up back up.
As blogged previously - Simon was out of town for a work conference last week. And when he got back he shipped me off to a night at a resort across the bay a-lone. He knew I would protest (which I did) but he had it all set up and said if I didn't go - we'd still have to pay so -- I went.
And um, it was awesome. If you had told me pre-kids or maybe even shortly after Julia was born that I would enjoy a solo night away as much as I did - I might've believed you, I guess. But I don't think I would've fully grasped what a rare luxury it was. I sat in the blistering sun (my very favorite) and read my book and walked on the beach and even got to pay a little visit to the spa (who do I THINK I AM?), hit up the empty gym, ate meals, and watched trash tv and got 8+ hours of uninterrupted sleep. I'll stop. I don't want to rub it in but it was amazing. And it all felt completely undeserved but (of course) I was so happy to see Simon and the kids the next day (Phoebe happily told me she cried a lot while I was gone - ever the honest little sweetheart). I even came home to a super deep cleaned house (how Simon did that without caging the kids for hours on end - I'll never know) which was just the cherry on top of it all.
Maybe next time I'll even bring him along :)

Simon - what a man! You - what a woman! Love this!!
ReplyDeleteWow. When I saw this on Instagram I thought Simon went with you--he set up a vacation for you solo? After coming home for a work conference? AND cleaned the house? That's AMAZING.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I wonder if he hired to clean the house - that's the stage I'm at right now with our disaster of a place.
ReplyDeleteHow amazing to get away like that; so good to hear you're being taken care of and allowing some self-care :)
haha no - I don't think anyone would've touched and organized the kids' closets like he did. I've been wanting to do that though! Thanks Jane!!!
Deletethe perfect gift.
ReplyDeleteI think you mean next time you'll bring ME ALONG. SUCK IT, SIMON. (Just kidding.)
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh - the greatest!! Sooo glad you got to go and soak up some alone time with all the luxuries alone time are equal to!
ReplyDeleteYou deserved it! I'm going to show my husband this post.
ReplyDeleteCan I give you Chris's email to pass along to Simon? Especially about the deep cleaning part? LOL ;) But I am so so happy for you, it all sounds amazing, and you 100% deserved it!
ReplyDeleteI'm not saying I'm jealous, but what color corrector does one use to cover up green with envy? What a lucky mom/wife you are!
ReplyDeleteMy DH just got back from a 3 week work trip out of the country while I stayed home minding the minions and starting the school/catechism year on my own and all I got was some lousy Polish Vodka that I can't drink (because I'm allergic to alcohol, which he knows) and 30+ hours of the most hellish re-entry to our little world from him that I've ever experienced in all his years of this kind of travel. How many times do I have to tell myself that "it's just the jet-lag talking" until I believe it? It doesn't matter, because at the moment I was about to send him to the grocery store for a something we didn't really need so I could change the locks while he was gone, he suddenly came to his senses and remembered that he likes us & missed us.
3 weeks?!?!? I would've gladly sent you in my place - I'm so sorry!
DeleteDreammmmmy!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a guy! So glad you got to relax!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds so amazing! And keep us posted on the book! You totally got me hooked into the Secret Life of Violet Grant and I am loving it!
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome! Sounds like a greeeeat time! Now - where's that sweater from? LOL
ReplyDeleteBest. Gift. Ever! <3
ReplyDeleteThat sounds perfect!

ReplyDeleteHow fun!! I'm so glad he did that for you, Grace. You deserve it and that kind of thing doesn't usually happen often in a busy mom's life so I'm glad you took advantage. :)
ReplyDeleteI had to look at my calendar to make sure it wasn't Mother's Day this past wknd, & I missed it. Wow, Simon ROCKS! He's totally screwing things up for all the other husbands out there. ;)
ReplyDeleteHe's such a nice boy! You should definitely keep him.
ReplyDeleteAww Sweet Simon!! I'm hoping my hubby will do this from me every once in a while once our baby is born although I won't need it just as bad since you have me beat by 4 kids lol
